More Info
Large holiday house in A* position overlooking Atlantic and Camel estuary
Tregreen, a 6-bedroom beach house (sleeps 12-14) sitting on the cliff between Daymer Bay (5 minute walk along coastal path) and Polzeath (10 minute walk), is just above the steps to Greenaway Beach. It is perfect for multi-family holidays and intergenerational gatherings with easy access to all the fabled pursuits of the Camel estuary or sit back and soak up the iconic views of Doom Bar, Pentire Point and the Atlantic rollers.
Trebetherick sits between Rock and Polzeath at the mouth of the Camel estuary on the North Cornwall coast. It benefits from exposure to both the Atlantic swell and the protection provided by Doom Bar that makes the estuary such a haven for water sports and bucket and spade beach days. The best situated houses in Trebetherick are either off Daymer Lane or on the seafront overlooking the ocean known as The Greenaway. Tregreen is perched on the Greenaway cliff one house back from the coastal path. Its garden is protected from the view of walkers on the path by traditional Cornish slate walls and its location as the last house on the lane cuts Tregreen adds to its privacy.
The stand-out feature of the house are its spectacular views with the full sweep of the ocean bookended by the dramatic silhouettes of the two points that guard the entrance to the estuary. Full scale sliding doors in three rooms allow you those relaxing in the house to enjoy the dramatic position to its fullest. Perhaps the best spot is the kitchen sink so there is compensation for doing the washing up. In fine weather you can spill out onto either the balcony, the terrace or the decking. No better place for a sundowner as the sunsets are spectacular and there is a choice tables on the terrace, the decking or the lawn by the wall to dine en plain air.
The Camel Estuary is the ultimate playground. It is unique in Cornwall for the range of activities on offer with many of the highlights right on the doorstep. The garden gate gives easy access to the cliff path immortalised in Betjemen’s poetry and from there for children it is either right to Greenaway Beach with it’s endless rockpools of vivid miniature worlds waiting to be explored or turn left to the protected sands of Daymer Bay. Polzeath has a stunning beach and its more exposed aspect allows surfing (both body-boarding and malibu boards) under the eye of RNLI lifeguards. There are numerous bathing spots off the rocks or Daymer beach for those just wanting a swim. There is world class golf and water sports on offer in Rock ten minutes away by car but you may prefer to walk there all along the beach which takes just under an hour. Head off on the coastal path in the other direction and you are quickly into some of the finest National Trust scenery in Cornwall where a trip to The Rumps a must for anybody’s week.
Rock is also the place to go and stock up on provisions from the excellent butcher, baker, fishmonger and village stores. There’s also a constant ferry service (and water taxi in the evenings) to Padstow for those in need of retail therapy and Polzeath has a mixture of surf shops and beach stalls. There is no shortage of choice when going out. There are three Michelin starred restaurants within 5 miles, 12 other Michelin recommended establishments and a plethora of pubs and beach bars - but none will have the view of the supper at Tregreen.
The house is on two levels but most of the action is on the top level which has the front door as the hill rises up to the terrace. The kitchen and main room are at the front of the house with the balcony that runs across the whole width of the house. The four bedrooms on the top level are removed from living space by a corridor with a door to There are more sofas in the sun room . There are two further bedrooms downstairs as well as space for boots coats and wet suits. Overall there are five bathrooms - two of which are en suite - and a cloakroom.
